How to Disable Jetpack image Sitemaps from WordPress

Sitemaps are files that list each post and page that should be indexed by search engines like Google or Bing. Jetpack allows you to generate such files in the form of a sitemap.  A sitemap is an XML file, it can be Post / Pages sitemap or an Image sitemap.

In this tutorial, we will learn how you can remove the Jetpack Image sitemap from the WordPress Sitemap list. This will no-index your media files into the Google Search Engine.

The sitemap for Search Engines

Jetpack’s XML sitemap can be accessed at: http://www.yoursitename.com/sitemap.xml

The simple sitemap contains posts & pages whereas news-sitemap ping the latest news of your website mostly used by news websites & your website should be approved by google news to use this sitemap.

Remove Jetpack Image Sitemap from WordPress

How to remove Jetpack images sitemap from WordPress website using a simple PHP code in function.php file.

  • Log in to WordPress Website
  • Go to Appearance → Theme Editor
  • Paste the following code in Function.php file
add_filter( 'jetpack_sitemap_image_skip_post', '__return_true' );

This code will disable the Jetpack Image sitemap from your sitemap list. You have to resubmit the sitemap in Google Search Console to update the sitemap.
